Joachim Frank (born July 1, 1965 in Ulm ) is a German journalist, author and correspondent specializing in domestic politics, current affairs and religious communities .

Joachim Frank, who grew up in Burgsteinfurt, Westphalia and attended the Arnoldinum grammar school there , studied Catholic theology, philosophy and art history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and in Rome at the Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe and graduated his studies with the licentiate from (Lic. theol.). He was ordained a priest in 1992. He then worked for several years in the church service as a priest in the diocese of Münster . In 1996 he resigned from the priesthood. In 2005 he received the dispensation (laicisation) from the Vatican .

After serving in the church, Frank switched to journalism. He initially volunteered at the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and worked for the newspaper for several years as a political correspondent, first in Bonn and then in Berlin. In 2001 Frank returned to Cologne headquarters as chief correspondent for the Kölner-Stadt Anzeiger. From 2002 to 2009 Frank was deputy editor-in-chief of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and from June 2009 to September 2011 editor-in-chief of the Frankfurter Rundschau . Frank has been chief correspondent for the DuMont media group since October 2011 . In this role he works for the group's newspapers: Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Berliner Zeitung and Mitteldeutsche Zeitung (Halle). He works as an author for the Frankfurter Rundschau. At the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger he is a member of the editor-in-chief. Joachim Frank is often invited as a guest commentator and interview partner on television and on the radio stations of the ARD. At the Karl Rahner Academy in Cologne , Frank is a permanent guest with the talk series Frank & frei of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, which he designed. Here he moderates current social and political discussions with public figures.

Frank's main topics are domestic politics, basic political, social and cultural issues, ethics of the media and communication, religions and world views. In addition to his own book publications, he is the author of numerous articles for anthologies and specialist journals.

Frank is a member of the selection committees of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Cusanuswerk / Bischöfliche Studienförderung and is a member of the jury for the Hessian Integration Prize and the German School Newspaper Prize, among others . Frank has been chairman of the Society of Catholic Publicists in Germany (GKP) since 2015 and was confirmed in office for a further three years in March 2018. In this function he is a member of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK). On November 25, 2017 Joachim Frank was elected to the main committee of the ZdK.

Joachim Frank u. a. at the TU Dortmund and at the Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists (ifp) in Munich. He is also a member of the sponsoring association of the Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists. V. as well as in the boards of trustees of the Donum vitae association and the foundation of the Karl Rahner Academy.

  • 2019: German Prize for Monument Protection - Journalist Prize as co-author for the column series in the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger Auf den Punkt by the former Cologne cathedral builder Barbara Schock-Werner
