As a result of his activities in Halle and Göttingen, Less initiated a more objective assessment of the meat quality of cattle, pigs and sheep. Later he dealt with stress research on farm animals and the influence of these factors on production performance and quality. During the time in Berlin, animal welfare and use-related aspects became the focus of animal husbandry studies. By including tropical and subtropical animal production in teaching and research at the TU Berlin with study trips and the establishment of diverse contacts, Less gained great national and international recognition. It is also evident from his successful work on many committees. Less published more than 300 scientific articles, supervised almost 100 doctoral students from the fields of agriculture and veterinary medicine and began the series of joint meetings between the two societies for breeding science and animal breeding science in Berlin in 1970, on which around 100 young authors a first platform for the presentation of their Receive research results.
