Joanna Sotomura

Joanna Reed Sotomura (born March 5, 1987 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) is an American actress .

Life

Joanna Sotomura was born and raised in Honolulu , Hawaii . She is the daughter of a Japanese and a German and attended Iolani High School in Honolulu. During this time she worked as a model for the Kathy Muller Modeling Agency and was a cover model for various magazines in front of the camera.

In 2005 she began her acting studies at Loyola Marymount University and financed her studies as an amateur actress in various Japanese commercials. Sotomura was also a member of the improvised comedy group Laser Squad Bravo , with whom she performed at universities in Moscow and Germany . In 2009 she successfully completed her studies with a Bachelor of Fine Arts .

Sotomura lives in Marina del Rey , Los Angeles County .

Acting career

Already at the age of 17 Sotomura had first experiences as a stage actress and in 2004 she played her first leading role at the Shakespeare Festival in Honolulu , where she played Helena in Midsummer Night's Dream . Sotomura then starred in the plays Closer , Rabbit Hole and Angels in America, respectively.

Movie and TV

Since 2011, Sotomura has focused on her career as a film and television actress. During this time she signed a contract with the Buchwald Talent Group and the ESI network, which helped her to get her first contracts as a film and television actress. She had a guest role as Lisa in an episode of the crime series Criminal Minds: Team Red and got her first lead role as Brooke in the horror film Madison County .

Web series

In 2013 and 2014, Sotomura starred in the second and third seasons of Video Game High School , a web series directed by Freddie Wong . Since October 2013, Sotomura has taken on the role of Emma Woodhouse in the Emma Approved web series , a modernized adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Emma , which is being developed by the creators of the award-winning web series The Lizzie Bennet Diaries .
