Life

Origin and family

Jobst Stephan von Kerckerinck zur Borg was born as the son of Hermann Stephan von Kerckerinck zur Borg (1645–1680) and his wife Anna Christine von Ketteler zu Harkotten . The Kerckerincks belonged to the Münster patrician families who played an important role in the hereditary dispute . Jobst Stephan's son Kaspar Nikolaus was one of the first from this class, who in 1729, after a long dispute with the cathedral chapter , enjoyed a cathedral priest .

On May 9, 1705, Jobst Stephan married Maria Agnes Dorothea von Ketteler zu Bollen († 1718) with papal confirmation in Rorup . The children of the marriage were Theodora Elisabeth Francelina (1706–1770, ⚭ 1731 Caspar Bernhard Franz von Weichs zur Wenne (1695–1736)), Sophie Josephine, ⚭ 1732 Ferdinand Wilhelm von der Recke zu Steinfurt (1707–1761), Kaspar Nikolaus and Clemens August .

With the receipt of the tonsure in 1697, Jobst Stephan was prepared for a spiritual life. On June 25, 1710, the emperor was raised to the status of baron , and on December 4, 1717, the revival of the knighthood of Münster took place. He was a member of the Landtag , a body made up of the three estates. His task was to regulate the tax system and from 1447 also the feudal system in the bishopric of Münster .

After he had exercised the office of treasurer in Bavaria, he became chief kitchen master in Münster on June 18, 1719 and later also in Paderborn. The appointment to the Electoral Cologne Real Secret Council dates back to April 4, 1723. Before Kerckerinck was appointed high court marshal in 1735 , he was employed as court marshal in Cologne.
