Jobst from Brandt

Jobst von Brandt (also: Jobst vom Brandt ; * October 28, 1517 in Waldershof ; † January 22, 1570 in Brand near Marktredwitz ) was a German nobleman of the Brandt family and composer .

Jobst von Brandt studied from 1530 in Heidelberg a . a. with Lorenz Lemlin , but after completing his musical training he took on a non-musical profession as an administrative officer. In 1548 he became a captain in Waldsassen ( Upper Palatinate ) and administrator of the local monastery and caretaker of Liebenstein near Tirschenreuth .

Musically, he continued Ludwig Senfl's line of song composition. More than 60 of his songs were published in Georg Forster's Frischen teutschen Liedlein . He also composed sacred works; a volume of psalm settings was published posthumously.
