Jocelyn Jee Esien (born March 2, 1979 in Hackney , London ) is a British comedian , actress and writer of Nigerian origin. She became known, among other things, for her appearance in the British hideout camera show 3 Non-Blondes , but in German-speaking countries above all for her own sketch show called Little Miss Jocelyn .

biography

Esien attended Raine's Foundation School and began studying law before giving it up to study acting. She graduated from the Guidhall School of Music and Drama . She became known, among other things, through her appearance in the BBC program 3 Non-Blondes , but also through appearances in other television programs such as The Fast Show or The Bill . In 2006 she wrote Little Miss Jocelyn, her first own television show, in which she impersonated several different roles. A second season followed in 2008. What is curious is the fact that the show was the first solo sketch show by a black woman on television in both the UK and the US . In Great Britain the program could be seen on BBC Three and BBC Two , in Germany both seasons were first broadcast on the television station Comedy Central Germany , with Sandra Schwittau taking over the dubbing of all roles played by Esien.

In 2000 Esien received the award for best newcomer at the Black International Comedy Awards , followed in 2006 by the New Talent Award at the Women in Film and Television Awards 2006 .

In 2007 Esien was in the comic relief video Walk This Way by the bands Girls Aloud and Sugababes , where she issues a parking ticket in her role as Jiffy from Little Miss Jocelyn Ewen Macintosh.

Esien also appeared in The Sarah Jane Adventures as Carla , the mother of Clyda Langer .

On June 11, 2009, Esien announced that there would be no third season of Little Miss Jocelyn. This was followed in November 2009 an appearance as a waitress Cindie Smith in the ITV telecast collision .

As of September 22, 2010, Esien returned to BBC Three for the eight-part comedy stunt show One Non-Blond: Down Under . In the same year she appeared alongside other British comedians in Ronnie Corbett's Christmas special, The One Ronnie , which aired on BBC One .

In 2011 Esien appeared on the British comedy shows Anuvahood and Some Girls .

In January and February 2013 she was part of the cast of One Monkey Don't Stop No Show , which was written by the playwright Don Evans and premiered at the Tricycle Theater . After that the play was performed all over the kingdom.

That same year, Esien appeared as Kelly on the BBC comedy show Gangsta Granny .

Esien had other roles in the television programs Autumn Leaves , Some Girls , Uncle Max , After You've Gone , Holby City , The Lenny Henry Show , Ed Stone Is Dead , Comedy Nation , The Fast Show , Douglas , The Bill and in the television movie The Name of Love . She also had her own stage shows.

She also appeared in the British dance film StreetDance 3D and wrote an episode for the American reality TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8 .
