Jochen Hiltmann
Jochen Hiltmann (born June 21, 1935 in Hamburg ) is a German sculptor , painter , graphic artist , art critic and filmmaker . He lives and works in Hamburg and Todenfeld near Bonn .
life and work
Jochen Hiltmann did an agricultural apprenticeship in Lübeck from 1953 to 1955 . He then worked on a vineyard in the south of France . From 1956 to 1959 Hiltmann studied fine art in Hamburg, Krefeld and Düsseldorf , among others with Bruno Goller and Joseph Faßbender .
In 1958 he received the art prize of the city of Krefeld and a scholarship from the Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft as part of the Lehmbruck basic funding . In 1959 he gave up painting and turned to sculpture. As a sculptor he was self-taught . In the following years he received international recognition. He has been awarded several important prizes:
- 1960: Villa Romana Prize , Florence
- 1962: Sponsorship award for the Cornelius Prize of the City of Düsseldorf
- 1964: Villa Massimo Prize, Rome
- 1965: German Youth Art Prize for Plastic
In 1964, his works were shown in the sculpture department at documenta III in Kassel . In 1967 he was appointed lecturer in metal sculpture at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts , from 1970–2001 he was professor and from 1974 vice-president of the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. In 1975 he was given a teaching position at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam . From 1972 to 1975 Hiltmann worked mainly theoretically. He consistently refused to art and exercised radical criticism of the artistic practice of the so-called avant - garde . Hiltmann was a member of the German Association of Artists .
His work as a sculptor is characterized by a specific emphasis on form, which was created in a visible production process. After 1975 he made artistic films and videos and wrote essays on art.
