Joachim "Jochen" Mietzner (* May 1943 ) is a former rower from the GDR .

life and career

Mietzner started for ASK Vorwärts Rostock and was four times GDR champion in two (2+) and four with helmsman (4+) and achieved further medals in four without helmsman (4-). Together with Günter Roock and helmsman Johannes Nath , he achieved sixth place in a pair with helmsman (2+) at the European Rowing Championships in 1969 in Klagenfurt . At the 1970 World Rowing Championships in St. Catharines , Canada , Mietzner won the silver medal in a four-man with a helmsman together with his club mates Bernd Meerbach , Rolf Zimmermann , Karl-Heinz Prudöhl and helmsman Karl-Heinz Danielowski .

In his youth Mietzner was active as a cyclist in Schwerin , later he worked as a cycling trainer in Frankfurt (Oder) .

In January 1968 Mietzner was honored as a master of sport . He has been married to the 1978 world handball champion Katrin Krüger since 1987 , and their daughter Franziska Mietzner (* 1988) was also a national handball player.
