Jochen Plogsties (2019)

Jochen Plogsties (* 1974 in Cochem ) is a contemporary painter. He lives and works in Leipzig. Since 2006 his studio has been on the site of the former Leipzig cotton spinning mill .

Life

Born in 1974 in Cochem on the Moselle, Plogsties studied from 1997 to 2003 at the Mainz Art School with Friedemann Hahn , then switched to the Leipzig School of Graphics and Book Art . Until 2006 he studied with Arno Rink and Neo Rauch , from 2006–2008 he was a master student with Neo Rauch.

Jochen Plogsties uses the means of contemporary painting and his 're-translations' of art reproductions into paintings to raise awareness of the processes and variances of artistic appropriation. Image strategies are recondensed using works from all epochs of art history. Plogsties' conceptual approach combines an appropriative attitude with a subjective gesture: By selecting and repeating his motifs, he renegotiates the degree of abstraction and adaptation in each work.
