Jochen Schneider (football official)

Jochen Schneider (born September 13, 1970 in Mutlangen ) is a German football functional . He has been the sports director of FC Schalke 04 since March 14, 2019 .

Life

Schneider is a trained banker and has a degree in business administration . After completing an internship at VfB Stuttgart during his studies , he was permanently employed by the club after completing his studies in June 1999. Initially, he was primarily responsible for the formal drafting of contracts. In December 2002 he took over the duties of the dismissed manager Rolf Rüssmann together with the trainer Felix Magath and the CFO Ulrich Ruf . When the club announced the separation from Magath in May 2004, Schneider became the new manager of VfB Stuttgart. After taking over the sporting management of VfB together with Herbert Briem , Schneider became a member of the newly formed management of the Stuttgart-based company. From January 2006 Schneider worked with the new team manager Horst Heldt . In April 2007 Schneider extended his contract as sports director at VfB Stuttgart until 2012. After Heldt, who had been promoted to sports director in the previous year , left the Swabians in 2010, Schneider took over the sporting management of the club “on an equal footing” with his new sports director colleague Fredi Bobic . In January 2012, Schneider extended his contract with VfB until 2016. After the Stuttgart-based company separated from Fredi Bobic, who had previously been promoted to the board, Schneider temporarily took over the sporting management of VfB together with head coach Armin Veh . After VfB had appointed Robin Dutt as the new sports director, the contract between Schneider and the club was terminated on June 30, 2015.

On October 12, 2015, Schneider became Coordinator Sport Global Soccer at Red Bull GmbH . From July 2017 to the end of February 2019, he was Head of Sports at RB Leipzig under Sports Director Ralf Rangnick .

On March 14, 2019, Schneider took up his position as sports director at FC Schalke 04 as the successor to the resigned Christian Heidel . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2022. On his first official day as sports director, the club, which had a 4-point lead over the relegation place after 25 match days and had just been eliminated from the Champions League , parted ways with head coach Domenico Tedesco . Relegation could be achieved under the interim coach Huub Stevens . For the season 2019/20 undertook Schneider David Wagner as the new head coach. After a first half of the season with 30 points and 5th place, FC Schalke played the worst second half of the club's history. With one win, 6 draws and 10 defeats, the team, which did not win 16 times in a row, only got 9 points, which meant 12th place overall. Before the 2020/21 season , Schneider took over the communication department from his board colleague Alexander Jobst (since then Marketing, Sales & Organization) in addition to the sports department .

Trivia

On November 28, 1987, at the age of 17, Schneider joined Wetten, dass ..? on. He made a bet that by looking at and feeling 100 tennis balls, he would recognize five balls that were added later, making him the betting king .
