Ulrich Ruf (born December 29, 1955 in Stuttgart ) is a German football functional .

Career as an official at VfB Stuttgart

Deputy managing director and director under Mayer-Vorfelder

On April 1, 1980, Ruf was employed by VfB Stuttgart as an assistant to the management and after a short time promoted to deputy managing director. In 1986 he became the managing director of VfB-Sport-Shop GmbH. Ruf was appointed director of finance, law, administration and organization at VfB Stuttgart in September 1990. Under the president Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder and the executive board member Ulrich Schäfer , Ruf was responsible for drafting contracts at Transfers.

Reputation as the only constant on the VfB board from 2000 to 2015

When Ulrich Schäfer and Hubert H. Schaefer left the board of VfB Stuttgart in October 2000, alongside President Mayer-Vorfelder, Ulrich Ruf was appointed to the board under the new President Manfred Haas together with Achim Egner , who initially also included Karlheinz Förster and Hansi Müller continued to belong. In his inaugural address at the general meeting on October 30, 2000, Ruf informed the club members about liabilities amounting to 29.155 million marks, which means that Ruf, in his new role as director of finance, law, administration and organization, has the highest level of debt in the history of VfB Stuttgart had to.

In February 2001, after a wave of resignation, Ruf was the only remaining member of the board of directors that had taken office around 100 days earlier, alongside President Haas, who was therefore supplemented with the new members Rolf Rüssmann and Peter Godenrath. In 2001 Ruf also became managing director of VfB Stuttgart Beteiligungs-GmbH and one year later took over the same office at VfB-Grundstücks-Verwaltungs-GmbH.

After the separation from Rolf Rüssmann in December 2002, Ruf took over the managerial duties together with Jochen Schneider and Felix Magath . Since the association had previously separated from board member Peter Godenrath, Ruf was once again the only board member together with President Haas. Nothing in this situation changed under Haas' successor Erwin Staudt until Ruf, in 2009, had Horst Heldt as a new colleague on the board for a year. After Ulrich Ruf's first six years in office as CFO of VfB Stuttgart, the club's debts were completely reduced. After the resignation of Gerd E. Mäuser on June 3, 2013, Ruf and his new board colleague Fredi Bobic took over the official duties of the President. As deputy chairman of the board, Ruf led the general meeting on July 22, 2013, at which Mauser's successor Bernd Wahler was elected to the vacant office.

On January 6, 2015 it was announced that Ulrich Ruf will leave the board of VfB Stuttgart on June 30, 2015. However, for health reasons, Ruf resigned his position on April 16, 2015.
