Joseph "Joe" Dodds (born July 14, 1887 in Carluke , Scotland , † October 14, 1965 ) was a Scottish football player .

Career and life

Joe Dodds was born in Carluke in July 1887, the second of eleven children to Joseph Dodds Sen. and Margaret Dodds . He began his football career in his hometown with the Carluke Milton Rovers . On May 13, 1908, Dodds signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow . After a year he was able to earn a place in the starting line-up of the Bhoys . Together with Alec McNair he formed a good defensive duo as a left center-back and full-back in the following years. He made his debut for Celtic on October 10, 1908 in the league game of the 1908/09 season against FC Dundee . Between 1908 and 1922 he collected eight championship titles, three cup wins and numerous other titles with Celtic . Interrupted his playing career was when he in the First World War for the British Army on the Western Front served. Dodds left Celtic at the end of the 1919/20 season , and moved to Cowdenbeath FC which offered him more money. A year later he returned to Glasgow for a year. From 1922 he played for six years with Queen of the South before ending his career. In 1914 Dodds made three caps for Scotland . He made his debut on February 28 against Wales . From 1936 to 1937 he was assistant coach under manager Jimmy McMenemy at the Bhoys in Green .
