Alexander "Alec" McNair (born December 26, 1883 in Bo'ness , † November 18, 1951 in Stenhousemuir ) was a Scottish football player and coach. The avowed Rangers fan and Protestant was under contract with Irish Catholic city rivals Celtic Glasgow for 21 years , playing longer than any other player for the club.

Career and life

Alec McNair began his career in 1902 at FC Stenhousemuir for which he played for two years. On May 2, 1904, he signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow . He made his debut for Celtic on September 10, 1904 in the Glasgow Cup against FC Queen's Park . Mostly on the right side of defense, McNair and Celtic shaped Scottish club football during this time . McNair was a constant and important constant. During the war years in World War I, McNair worked in the arms industry. In August 1915 his wife Mary died with whom he had five children. He continued to work 12-hour shifts and also played for Celtic . He played a total of 604 times in competitive games for the Bhoys and scored 11 goals. He won 12 league titles, six cup wins and nine times the Glasgow Cup. From 1906 to 1920 McNair completed fifteen caps for Scotland . He made his debut on March 3, 1906 in Edinburgh against Wales . With the Scottish national team, he won the British Home Championship four times . He ended his active career in 1925 at the age of 41. From 1925 to 1927 he coached Dundee FC . He last lived in Larbert . He died in 1951 at the age of 68.
