Joe Weingarten (born March 17, 1962 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German ministerial official and politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the German Bundestag since November 1, 2019 .

Life

Joe Weingarten grew up in Idar-Oberstein and joined the SPD as a teenager in 1978. The doctor of administration has worked in various positions for the SPD parliamentary group and the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1989 . In addition, since 1994 he has been active in various functions in local politics in the Donnersberg district . From 2010 until his move to the Bundestag in 2019, he headed the Innovation, Technology and Digitization Department in the Ministry of Economics of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .

In August 2018, at a party meeting in Roxheim, he divided refugees seeking admission in Germany into three groups: “Asylum seekers”, “Job seekers” and “ rabble ”. His statements met with some sharp criticism from within the party, in particular the “Working Group on Migration and Diversity” of the Mainz SPD criticized Weingarten's choice of words undermining social democratic values.

After the resignation of the parliamentary mandate by Andrea Nahles in October 2019 he moved about the SPD state list Rhineland-Palatinate according to the Bundestag. Weingarten is a member of the Digital Agenda Committee and a deputy member of the Committee for Economy and Energy .

Joe Weingarten is married and has three children.
