Johann Adam von Hoheneck († December 27, 1731 in Rome ) was cathedral dean in Worms and collegiate capital in Würzburg .

Origin and family

He came from the Palatine noble family of the barons of Hoheneck, which died out in 1808, with their ancestral castle Hohenecken near Kaiserslautern . The ancestor of the family was the Lauterer Reichsschultheiß Reinhard I de Lutra († 1218), whose son Landolf von Hoheneck († 1247) officiated as Bishop of Worms .

Johann Adam von Hoheneck was born as a child of the Electorate of Mainz in Aschaffenburg , Johann Reinhard von Hoheneck and his wife Martha Helena von Eltz . His grandmother Anna von Hoheneck geb. Countess von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht (1573–1626) was the niece of the famous Speyer cathedral dean Adolph Wolff von Metternich zur Gracht (1553–1612).

His brother Wilderich Marsilius von Hoheneck († 1735) was also canon in Worms, collegiate capital in Würzburg and vicar general or cathedral choirmaster in Mainz . The eldest brother Anselm Franz von Hoheneck died as early as 1704 as Mainz vicar general, the second oldest, Philipp Franz Adolph von Hoheneck (1645–1705), worked as the Teutonic commander in Nuremberg . Her nephews Johann Philipp von Hoheneck († 1743) and Johann Franz Jakob Anton von Hoheneck († 1758) officiated as canons in Worms and Mainz, the latter here as cathedral dean.

Live and act

Johann Adam von Hoheneck was domiciled in Würzburg on September 13, 1668 and served his biennium from 1672 to 1674 at the University of Dole . The clergyman also acted as a canon of the Knights' Monastery of St. Ferrutius zu Bleidenstadt , as President of the Worms Court Council (court) and as Prince-Bishop of Worms and High and German Masters Privy Council . The latter resulted from the quality of the then Worms Bishop Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg as Grand Master of the Teutonic Order .

Johann Adam von Hoheneck undertook numerous pilgrimages, of which the following have been handed down: 1680 to Maria Einsiedeln , 1682 to the Three Kings in Cologne , 1685, 1686 and 1687 to Waghäusel .

He died in Rome in 1731. His nephew, cathedral capitular Johann Franz Jakob Anton von Hoheneck († 1758), later had an epitaph inscription made for himself in Worms Cathedral (north transept), which also commemorates his deceased spiritual uncles Johann Adam and Wilderich Marsilius von Hoheneck.

On the choir stalls of the Church of St. Burkard (Würzburg) there is a painted coat of arms of Johann Adams von Hoheneck, as well as one of his brother Wilderich Marsilius.
