Johann August Messerich

Johann August Messerich (born January 26, 1806 in Bitburg ; died January 3, 1876 in Trier ) was a German lawyer and member of the Prussian National Assembly .

Life

Johann August Messerich attended the Royal High School in Trier and received his Abitur there in 1825. He studied law at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn (1829) and since the winter semester 1832/33 at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg . There he joined the German Press and Fatherland Association . In 1830 he became a member of the Old Bonn Burschenschaft , in 1831 of the Old Heidelberg Burschenschaft / Fäßlianer . He took part in the Hambach Festival in 1834 . He was arrested in Trier for participating in the Hambach Festival in 1834. In Berlin he was sentenced to 13 years in a fortress , but released from prison in 1839. After that, Messerich was appointed ausculator at the regional court in Düsseldorf , in 1841 trainee lawyer and in 1845 as lawyer .

In the elections to the National Assembly in Frankfurt am Main in 1848, Messerich was elected elector in Trier, who supported the election of Ludwig Simon . In 1848 Messerich was elected to the Prussian National Assembly for the “constituency of Bitburg”. In 1849 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives . In both bodies he belonged to the "extreme left".

Messerich was friends with Karl Marx and last met him in 1863 when Marx was in Trier.

In 1875 he was awarded the title of Counselor of Justice . Johann August Messerich died on January 3rd, 1876 in Trier.
