Johann Baptist Wirthmüller

Johann Baptist Wirthmüller (born June 20, 1834 in Haarpaint , Lower Bavaria , † May 13, 1905 in Munich ) was a German Catholic theologian , university professor and university preacher .

Life

Wirthmüller was born as the son of Simon and Theresia Wirthmüller (née Buchner). He studied philosophy and theology at the royal lyceum, the forerunner of the Philosophical-Theological University of Regensburg , then theology in Munich . Wirthmüller was ordained a priest in Regensburg on August 21, 1857 . In 1859 he received his doctorate in Munich, then he worked as a pastor in the diocese of Regensburg . In 1865 he completed his habilitation in dogmatics at the University of Munich , where he worked as a private lecturer and was a university preacher from 1864 to 1867. From 1867 he was an associate professor , from 1871 full professor for patrology , introductory theological studies , biblical hermeneutics and (from August 1872) New Testament exegesis in Würzburg , from 1874 to 1905 professor for moral theology at the University of Munich (on leave from 1906 to 1905). In 1880 he also took on the role of university preacher. He was repeatedly dean of the theological faculty.
