Johann Peter Christian Bröker , also Johannes Peter Christian Bröker (born October 13, 1806 in Schleswig , † 1890 in Uetersen ) was a German author , Evangelical Lutheran theologian , provost and member of the Holstein assembly of estates .

Life

He was born the son of Jacob Friedrich Bröker and his wife Wilhelmine (née Cords) in Schleswig. Broker attended the Cathedral School in Schleswig and studied from September 1824, the Christian-Albrechts-University theology . In 1829 he passed his exam (2nd character in A.) in Gottorf and was introduced as pastor of the parish in Krummendiek on March 20, 1831 , and on May 14 of the same year became head of the provost of Münsterdorf . He later moved to Uetersen and on March 1, 1835, he was the principal and monastery preacher of the Uetersen monastery churchintroduced. From autumn 1854 until its dissolution in 1864 he was a clerical member of the Holstein assembly of estates in Itzehoe.

Bröker was married in third marriage to Magdalene (1807-1892), a sister of General Field Marshal Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke , and on July 14, 1876, was church provost of the Propstei Pinneberg and deputy bishop in the church administration. On May 8, 1881, he celebrated his 50th anniversary in office and the "Propst Broker Foundation" was set up in Uetersen in his honor, the community donated 1,500 marks and the Uetersen monastery 600 marks. This foundation was intended for the needy, but later fell victim to German inflation . In 1889 he quietly celebrated the golden wedding anniversary with his third wife . On the eve of the day before his 60th anniversary in office, Bröker collapsed and died four weeks later of old age . Johann Bröker was firmly committed to the Lutheran Church. His sermons moved mainly in the area of ​​the second article of faith “by grace alone”. He was considered an “extremely valued man. In his erect figure and his distinctive facial features a powerful determination was expressed, which he was able to hold on to tradition to the point of relentless stubbornness ”.
