Johann Burckhardt von Wichmannshausen , also modernized Johann Burkhard von Wichmannshausen , (born October 14, 1710 in Wittenberg ; † June 22, 1771 in Zörnigall ) was a royal Polish and electoral Saxon real chamber councilor and district chief in the Kurkreis of the Kingdom of Saxony as well as supervisor in of County Barby .

Life

He was the son of the orientalist Johann Christoph Wichmannshausen , who taught at the University of Wittenberg , and the grandson of the Graflich-Stolberg-Wernigerödischen iron factor of the same name in Ilsenburg (Harz) . His mother was Anna Sophia, the daughter of Otto Mencke .

After receiving instruction from private tutors, his parents sent him to school in Chemnitz in 1724 . He switched to the grammar school in Annaberg in the Ore Mountains and in Altenburg . Due to the death of his father, he was brought back to Wittenberg by his grandfather. He studied at the university there and also attended the University of Leipzig . Economics suited him the most.

In 1746 he became official governor and later, in 1764, district chief in Wittenberg. In this function he was responsible for the spa district and at the same time for the two offices of Dahme and Jüterbog as well as for the county of Barby (there as supervisor) and Dobrilugk . In 1769 he accepted the hereditary homage from the Saxon subjects on behalf of the elector .

Johann Burckhardt von Wichmannshausen was buried in Wittenberg. In addition to his widowed wife, who was still alive, he left behind a daughter and son Johann George Burckhardt (Burkhard) von Wichmannshausen.
