Johann Christoph Grass
Johann Christoph Grass (born September 7, 1639 in Portein , † December 20, 1702 in Präz ) was a Swiss Reformed pastor .
Life
Johann Christoph Grass was born as the son of the pastor of the same name on September 7, 1639 in Portein am Heinzenberg in the canton of Graubünden . Nothing is known about his early school education; he probably received his first lessons from his father. On May 29, 1657 the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod accepted him in Thusis . According to the testimony of the Synod, he had been at the Collegium Carolinum in Zurich since 1650 and went to the University of Basel seven years later . Although he was younger than 22, he was accepted into the synod, which caused him problems finding a parish office. At first he was just his father's assistant in Portein. After the death of his father, he took over the position together with his brother Caspar Grass . When the position was split up in 1670, Grass became pastor in Prec. He kept this position until his death on December 20, 1702. He gained fame through the creation and publication of a hymn book in Rhaeto-Romanic .
