Johann Christoph Wohler
Johann Christoph Wohler (* 1748 in Magdeburg ; † May 4, 1799 in Potsdam ) was a German sculptor who worked in Potsdam .
Life
Johann Christoph Wohler ("the elder") and his brother Michael Christoph Wohler (1754–1802, "the younger") apprenticed to their father and the brothers Johann David and Johann Lorenz Wilhelm Räntz , who had moved from Bayreuth to Potsdam . They had been active in Potsdam since 1769 and were involved in the latest sculptures in the New Palace and in numerous city buildings.

- 1781: Potsdam, Langer Stall , southern portal facade, sandstone figures
- 1781: Potsdam, Alte Post , putti reliefs with post scenes transformed into playful and crowning with "mile pointers". These were flanked by sculptures, which represented personifications of the four continents Europe , Asia , Africa and America as well as Mercury and Fama .
- 1789: Berlin, Brandenburg Gate , production of the original-size wooden models for the Quadriga based on a plaster cast by Johann Gottfried Schadow .
- 1790: Potsdam, horse-drawn carriage stable on Neuer Markt, figurine decorations
- 1793/94: Potsdam, obelisk at the end of the main avenue of the New Garden in front of the Marble Palace on the Holy See , based on a design by Carl Gotthard Langhans , four medallions. The four relief medallions depict men's heads at different ages, which symbolize the four seasons.
- 1796: Potsdam, former actor barracks, also called "Logierhaus", figure frieze and relief heads based on designs by Johann Gottfried Schadow.
- 1796/97: Potsdam, Palais Lichtenau : gable relief based on a design by Johann Gottfried Schadow. It shows Apollo surrounded by Hercules , Nike , Poseidon , Ceres and Proserpina .
