Johann Franz Desideratus Prince of Nassau-Siegen (born July 28, 1627 in Nozeroy ; † December 17, 1699 in Roermond ) was Count of Nassau (since 1652 Prince of Nassau), Count of Katzenelnbogen , Vianden and Diez , Baron of Beilstein and Ronse (Renaix). He was General-Field Marshal in the Habsburg-Spanish service and governor in Luxembourg, Limburg and Geldern.

Life

Johann Franz Desideratus was the only son from the marriage of Count Johann VIII of Nassau-Siegen (1583–1638) and Ernestine Yolande Princess de Ligne (1594–1663).

On July 27, 1638 he became Baron de Renaix. On November 21, 1652 the Emperor raised Johann Moritz and Johann Franz Desideratus to the rank of imperial prince, now prince of Nassau-Siegen in Siegen (castle) and Netphen. In 1661 he became a knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece .

Like his father, he was General Field Marshal in the Habsburg-Spanish service. He was also governor and governor of Luxembourg and captain general of the Duchy of Limburg. On May 20, 1680 he finally became governor of Spanish Gelderland .

From 1691 to 1699 he was ruler of Nassau-Siegen and successor to Wilhelm Moritz von Nassau-Siegen . He was a Catholic and unpopular with the people because of his persecution of Calvinists, his mismanagement, and the increasing debt.

He married on December 13, 1651 in Vienna Johanna Claudia Countess von Königsegg-Aulendorf (born August 23, 1632 in Innsbruck, † November 23, 1663 in Renaix), 1648 to 1651 lady-in-waiting of the Empress Eleonora Gonzaga d. J. , the wife of Emperor Ferdinand II. The following children were born from this marriage:

From the marriage with Maria Eleonore Sophia Margravine von Baden-Rodemachern (23 August 1641 to 18 April 1668) (also: 19 April 1668), daughter of Hermann Fortunat , whom he died on 30 May after the death of his first wife Married in Rodemack in 1665 , they had the following children:

In his third marriage he married Baroness Isabelle Claire Eugénie du Puget de la Serre (* 1651 - 19 October 1714) in Brussels on February 9, 1669 , with whom he had the following descendants:
