meaning

Moritz Heinrich's coffin in the royal crypt in Hadamar

The expansion of the city that his father had begun continued under Moritz Heinrich. He was particularly active in the internal structure of the city, civil order, public health and social welfare, but had no supraregional significance like his father.

On July 17, 1663, he continued the foundations for the needy that his father had started by setting up the St. Elisabeth Hospital on what was then Obermarktplatz. The building was opened on November 21, 1663.

Under the company name Der Hegende he was accepted as a member of the Fruitful Society .

religion

Moritz Heinrich was brought up Catholic by his father after the Counter Reformation in Nassau-Hadamar. He was responsible for the new building of the Aegidien Church (1658–1666) of the Franciscan monastery above the city. The princely crypt, in which the first burial took place in May 1661, is located under the choir to this day.

During his reign, in the second half of 1675, the Herzenberg chapel was built in the form of an octagonal room, which, when it was later expanded, formed today's choir.
