“The Bemerode Revue ”, excerpt with George II of England (left) and the young Prince Wilhelm August

Johann Franz Lüders was born as the son of Hans Lüders († 1708), who was elected master painter in Hamburg in 1689, and Anna Lucia, née Kamphusen, who also came from a master painter's family. Before 1729 he married Sophie Eleonore Wilhelmina Lafontaine (* 1701 in Celle; † 1764 in Hanover), the eldest daughter of the court painter Georg Wilhelm Lafontaine , who worked in Celle and Hanover , and godchild of the Hanoverian Electress Sophie , Eleonore d'Olbreuse and Georg Wilhelm , Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg .

One of Lüder's best-known works is the more than eight-meter-wide panorama painting “The Review of Bemerode ” in the Hanover Historical Museum . The monumental work shows the parade of the English king and Hanoverian elector George II , who visited his Hanoverian homeland during the time of the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover in 1735. More than 2500 figures are depicted on the painting, “including Tyrolean traders in costume and Mustapha, [...] the English ruler's valet . The fact that affairs were common at court is made clear in the person of Amalie Sophie von Wallmoden , who was awarded the title of Countess of Yarmouth. The sedan chair as well as the portrait of the favorite George II can be seen in the museum. "
