from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Friedrich Glocker (* 1718 in Tübingen ; † 1780 there ) was a painter from Württemberg . He lived mostly in Tübingen. He also spent several years of his life in Heidelberg .

Life

Johann Friedrich Glocker was the eldest son of the painter Johann Glocker . From him he also learned the painting trade. He grew up in Tübingen. When Johann Glocker moved from Tübingen to Heidelberg in 1735 due to a lack of orders, he took his son with him, who was also his apprentice. He continued with his father in 1741/42 with the Lords of Sternenfels in Ochsenburg ( Oberamt Brackenheim , today district of Heilbronn ), which is indicated by an epitaph he painted later (1745) for Ludwig Berthold von Sternenfels. After several years of absence he probably returned to his hometown, but he also worked in the wider area. In 1749 he also worked on furnishing the Lusthaussaal in Stuttgart. In 1754 he painted a cycle of paintings on the gallery of the parish church in Wolfschlugen . From the same year 1754 he also worked in Ludwigsburg Palace . His life is practically unexplored.

The paintings on the outside of the gallery parapet of the parish church in Wolfschlugen are considered to be Johann Friedrich Glocker's main work. There are a few rare motifs among the paintings: depictions of the Ascension with two angels referring to Christ's second coming , and Martin Luther with the goose.

Johann Friedrich Glocker had three sons who became painters. They all died relatively young:

  • August Friedrich Glocker (1752–1792)
  • Johann Glocker (1754–1783)
  • Johann Carl Eberhard Glocker (1756–1785)
