Johann Friedrich von Benkendorf

Johann Friedrich von Benkendorf (born December 23, 1716 , † August 1765 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant colonel and commander of the III. Grenadier Battalion .

Life

His parents were the Ansbach privy councilor Johann Achatz von Benckendorf and Ernestine Magdalena von Lengefeld.

Benkendorf initially served in the Württemberg military . In 1741 he switched to Prussian service in Regiment No. 41 . In 1748 he became a staff captain and was given a grenadier company. In 1757 he was promoted to major and received a grenadier battalion. It was formed from two companies from Infantry Regiment No. 41 and two from Infantry Regiment No. 44 . On May 24, 1764, he became a lieutenant colonel, but on June 8, 1765, he retired from military service with a pension of 300 thalers. But he died in August of the same year.

Benkendorf took part in the Second Silesian War and the Seven Years War . He was able to distinguish himself in the battles of Kolin , Breslau , Leuthen and the battle near Görlitz . He was wounded in the battle of Prague . He took part in the storming of Schweidnitz and in 1760 in the defense of Köslin . In the end, he had to hand the city over to the Russian General Tottleben as commander .
