Johann Georg Christian Kapp (born March 18, 1798 in Bayreuth ; † December 31, 1874 in Neuenheim , now part of Heidelberg ) was a German professor of philosophy and a democratically minded Baden politician in the context of the March Revolution .

Christian Kapp was born as one of nine children and the youngest son of the consistorial councilor and superintendent Johann Kapp (1739–1817) and his wife Henriette, b. Müller, born in Bayreuth. He studied Protestant theology and philosophy at the University of Berlin and the University of Erlangen . In 1818 he joined the old Berlin fraternity and in 1819 was awarded Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as a private lecturer and in 1824 became professor of philosophy in Erlangen. As early as 1832 he was retired for political reasons and then moved to Heidelberg . In 1839 Kapp was finally dismissed from the Bavarian civil service and was able to become a professor in Heidelberg. In 1840 he was appointed court councilor in Baden. In 1844 he gave up his professorship for political reasons and from then on lived in Heidelberg as the author of numerous philosophical and theological writings.

In 1846 he became a member of the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly for Offenburg , of which he was a member until 1849, and worked in close contact with Friedrich Hecker .

In 1847 he was one of the main speakers at the Offenburg meeting and shortly afterwards a participant in the Heppenheim conference , which brought him investigations into high treason . He then belonged to the pre-parliament and represented the 3rd Baden constituency of Villingen in the Frankfurt National Assembly from May 29, 1848 to June 30, 1849 , where he belonged to the Donnersberg faction .
