Johann Georg Conradi (* 1645 in Oettingen , Grafschaft Oettingen ; † May 22, 1699 in Oettingen , Principality of Oettingen ) was a German composer , organist and conductor .

Life

Johann Georg Conradi - son of an organist from Oettingen - received musical training from his father and probably received his later musical training in Stuttgart .

When he returned to Oettingen in 1671, he became music director there . Conradi left Oettingen after a decade and went to Ansbach in 1683 . There he took over the position of court conductor . In his Ansbach years, Conradi created dozens of compositions .

Already after four years in 1687 Conradi left Ansbach again, because after the elevation of the County of Oettingen to the Principality of Oetingen, the subsequent regent renounced the services of Johann Georg Conradi. Conradi moved to the nearby Römhild in the Franconian south of Thuringia , where he set up a small court orchestra as Kapellmeister .

In 1690 Johann Georg Conradi accepted the call as Kapellmeister at the famous Hamburg Opera on Gänsemarkt . Under Conradi's direction, Italian and French operas from the Renaissance and Baroque periods were staged at the Opera am Gänsemarkt , along with his own and contemporary works by other composers. In his Hamburg years Conradi composed nine operas, but as far as is known, in addition to all the libretti, only the music of the opera The beautiful and faithful Ariadne has survived to this day. The Ariadne was re-staged in the 21st century and on recordings recorded.

Despite great success, Conradi left the Hanseatic city due to economic problems in 1694. He returned to Oettingen and held the position of Kapellmeister at the prince's court of Albrecht Ernst II until his death . The position of conductor remained in the Conradi family and passed to his son after the death of Johann Georg Conradi.
