Johann Georg von Merckelbach (* around 1609 in Speyer ; † December 1680, presumably in Durlach ) was councilor in the margraviate of Baden-Durlach .

family

Merckelbach comes from the German-Dutch noble family of the Merckelbach . His father Thomas von Merckelbach was an assessor at the Imperial Court of Justice in Speyer and had been married to Barbara Erhard since 1608. Merckelbach was born as the first child of this couple around 1609. In 1660 he married Baroness Anna Maria von (der) Kula (1632–1670). From this marriage there were seven children.

Political career

After studying in Marburg , Helmstedt , Altdorf and Strasbourg , he entered the service of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach and, as Baden-Durlach's envoy, took part in the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia in Münster and Osnabrück. In recognition of his services, Margrave Friedrich V of Baden-Durlach transferred the rule of Badenweiler to him as senior bailiff in 1651 . In 1653 he accompanied the margrave to the Reichstag in Regensburg . Under Margrave Friedrich VI. In 1669 he also became senior bailiff of the Rötteln rule . Margrave Friedrich Magnus appointed him court counselor on February 1, 1680. In the same year he died.
