Johann Hindler

Johann Hindler (born September 3, 1951 in Rothleiten , Frohnleiten ) is an Austrian clarinetist and university teacher. He is a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and clarinetist with the Vienna Philharmonic .

Life

At the age of nine, Johann Hindler received his first clarinet lessons from Josef Brunader in his home town of Frohnleiten. From 1973 he studied with Karl Steinwidder in Graz, beginning in 1975 he studied with Peter Schmidl at the University of Music in Vienna , which he graduated with honors in 1980. He also studied breathing technology with Hilde Langer-Rühl and Johann Leutgeb.

In 1979 he was accepted as a clarinetist in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera , and in 1982 he became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic .

In 1980 he was appointed to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna as assistant to Peter Schmidl, and since 1995 Hindler has been a full professor in his own class in the clarinet concert subject. His students include the two Vienna Philharmonic Matthias Schorn and Daniel Ottensamer , the Berlin Philharmonic Andreas Ottensamer , the two solo clarinettists of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg Ferdinand Steiner and Christoph Zimper , the solo clarinetist of the Bavarian State Orchestra Andreas Schablas as well as Petra Stump and Heinz-Peter Linshalm by the Stump-Linshalm duo .

In terms of chamber music, Hindler is active, for example, with the Vienna Ring Ensemble or the Vienna Wind Soloists, and he was also a member of the five-member committee of the Ossiach Orchestra Academy . In autumn 2016 he was followed by his former student Gregor Hinterreiter in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, and his professorship at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna was taken over by his former assistant Christoph Zimper in October 2017 .
