Johann Jakob von Horn (born December 16, 1776 in Wesel , † October 10, 1852 in Rheinberg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Little is known about his parents. His father was a landowner, his mother a born Mees. Until 1806 he appears in the lists as Johann Horn .

Military career

Horn came in 1794 as a volunteer in the hussar regiment "von Blücher" of the Prussian army and took part in the campaign on the Rhine in the same year. In 1797 he was appointed sergeant and advanced to secondary lieutenant until August 1803 . During the Fourth Coalition War Horn fought in the battle of Auerstedt and the battle near Magdeburg and was seriously wounded near Fürstenberg.

After the Peace of Tilsit , he was with half pay on February 24, 1809 again at the Pomeranian Hussars hired. On April 29, 1809, the Immediate Commission of Inquiry of the dissolved regiments proposed him for his performance during the war for the Order Pour le Mérite . However, an award was refused. On June 11, 1809, Horn became the adjutant of General von Blücher and from July 1, 1809 he received his full salary of 20 thalers and 2 rations. In this position, he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on October 29, 1809, and to Staff Assistant on August 30, 1811 . On March 12, 1812, he came to General von Hünerbein as adjutant , before Horn was transferred to the gendarmerie as a district brigadier on October 27, 1812 .

With the start of the Wars of Liberation , he was appointed adjutant to General von Goertzen on April 11, 1813, and on May 4, 1813, he was appointed in command of the Schweidnitz Fortress . He was promoted to major on June 1, 1813, and was appointed commander of the 9th Silesian Landwehr Cavalry Regiment. He fought with it at the siege of Glogau , received the Iron Cross 2nd class and took part in the battle of the Katzbach .

On April 8, 1815 Horn took over the leadership of the 3rd Pomeranian Landwehr Cavalry Regiment and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 3, 1815 . On February 27, 1816 he was aggregated to the 4th Uhlan Regiment and on April 23, 1819 to the 6th Uhlan Regiment . On March 30, 1822 he was promoted to colonel and on July 21, 1822, he was transferred to the 2nd Uhlan Regiment as commander. Horn received his departure as major general on September 14, 1833 with a pension of 1400 thalers. He moved to Rheinberg near Düsseldorf on October 1, 1834 and died there on October 10, 1852 unmarried.
