Johann Josef Ignaz von Hoffmann
Johann Josef Ignaz Hoffmann , von Hoffmann from 1856 , (born March 17, 1777 in Mainz , † January 30, 1866 in Aschaffenburg ) was a German mathematician .
Life
Hoffmann was the son of a high official and Count Palatine . He initially received lessons in his parents' house. On December 9, 1791 he was enrolled in the philosophical preparatory school. This was followed by studies at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Mainz . He also devoted himself to studying mathematics and physics . Due to the turmoil of the war, he did not receive a deanery certificate for his two-year studies until December 18, 1795 . He then devoted himself to studying law and then accepted employment in administration.
Hoffmann fled from the French to Aschaffenburg on November 24, 1800 . Here he turned to the teaching profession. In 1802 he was supplent at the Charles University in Aschaffenburg , 1806 he was on the previously represented professor of Pure and Applied Mathematics appointed . From 1807 to 1832 he also worked as a teacher and rector at the Aschaffenburg Forestry Training Institute, which he co-founded . From 1812 he became director of the philosophical teaching institute at the University of Aschaffenburg.
When Aschaffenburg University was downgraded to a lyceum , a university study facility, in 1818 , Hoffmann organized the new facility as rector until 1822. He was also appointed royal ministerial commissioner for high school examination matters. He published various mathematical writings.
On August 3, 1819, Hoffmann, with the academic surname Vega, was elected a member (matriculation no. 1136) of the Leopoldina Scholars' Academy .

- January 1, 1849: Award of the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Merit of St. Michael .
- January 1, 1856: Award of the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown and nobility .
- January 1, 1856: Awarded the Cross of Honor of the Order of Ludwig .
