Johann Konrad Grübel (born June 3, 1736 in Nuremberg ; † March 8, 1809 there ) was a Nuremberg dialect poet. Grübel was Stadtflaschner and street captain of the city of Nuremberg.

Life

Konrad Grübel's father was Jonas Paul Grübel (1702–1773), a Flaschner (plumber) and harness maker. Gruebel's mother was Magdalena, geb. Rommel († 1771). On May 11, 1773, Grübel married Anna Maria Giebel (1746-1804), with whom he had nine children.

After graduating from primary school, Konrad Grübel became Flaschner and Harnischmacher like his father. He worked in his father's butcher shop, which he later took over as a master and continued until his death. As a city bottler he received numerous public contracts. He enjoyed a high reputation in his craft. He held numerous honorary positions. His artistic mechanical works even reached Italy.

He earned his fame through his dialect poems, which give a true picture of the life and goings-on of the Nuremberg bourgeoisie. In his poems he dealt with everyday life in his hometown in a humorous and popular way. His poems initially appeared self-published in leaflet and booklet form. Even during Grübel's lifetime, his poems in Nuremberg dialect were summarized in a first collective edition (1798–1812). He also published correspondence and letters in Nuremberg dialect (Nuremberg 1808).

Even Goethe praised the dialect poet Grübel. Everything this poet writes is "clear, serene and pure, like a glass of water". However, he criticized his 'unpleasant' dialect, which contained strong North Bavarian-Upper Palatinate echoes. If the poems should find a larger readership, then the translation of the dialect into “purer German” is essential.

In 1808, Grübel was accepted into the Pegnese Flower Order .

When Konrad Grübel died a year later, he was buried in the Johannisfriedhof (grave no. 200).
