Johann Matthias Matsko

Johann Matthias M. Matsko (born December 5, 1721 in Preßburg ; † November 22, 1796 in Kassel ) was an astronomer , mathematician and university professor .

Life

Matsko's early career is largely unknown. At Easter 1741 she was enrolled at the University of Jena . He also studied at the University of Halle and from 1743 at the University of Göttingen . After graduation, he went to the Thorner Gymnasium in 1745 . After another ten years, in 1755, he became senior teacher with the Counts of Stolberg . On the recommendation of the mathematician Johann Ludwig Oeder , he was appointed professor of mathematics at the University of Rinteln in 1761 .

Matsko finally followed in 1767 a call as a full professor of mathematics from Rinteln to the Collegium Carolinum in Kassel. In addition, he was appointed head of the Kassel observatory . It was one of the oldest observatories in Europe. He was also awarded the title of court counselor in Hesse-Cassel .
