Johann Mederitsch

Johann Georg Anton Mederitsch , called Gallus-Mederitsch (baptized December 27, 1752 in Vienna , † December 18, 1835 in Lemberg ), was an Austrian composer , conductor and teacher.

Life

Mederitsch was a son of the bassist Gallus Anton Mederitsch (1710–1775) from Götzendorf. He was tutored by Georg Christoph Wagenseil . From 1781 he was theater music director in Olomouc , Vienna and Ofen (Budapest).

Around 1800 he gave Franz Grillparzer piano lessons. In 1811 he went to Lviv. From 1825 he was friends with WA Mozart's younger son, whom he taught in counterpoint . He also bequeathed his estate to him (now at the Mozarteum in Salzburg).

Mederitsch composed the first act for the opera Babylons Pyramiden (second act by Peter von Winter , Freihaustheater 1797), as well as seven other Singspiele. He has also created theatrical music (for performances of Shakespeare's Macbeth , Hamlet and The Tempest ), sonatas , piano pieces, 4 masses , string trios, string quartets , symphonies and concerts.
