Johann Peter Stein (born October 8, 1647 in Mölln , † April 30, 1710 in Lübeck ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman, chief pastor of the Lübeck Aegidienkirche and senior of the Ministry of Spirituality.

Life

Johann Peter Stein was a son of the pastor of St. Nicolai (Mölln) and later to St. Jakobi in Lübeck Lucas Stein (1616–1671) and grandson of the Lübeck pastor Johann Stein (1585–1637). He visited the Katharineum in Lübeck ; as a schoolboy he gave two speeches in Latin. and studied from 1665 at the universities of Rostock , Jena , Kiel , Wittenberg and Königsberg . In 1670 he wrote a funeral pamphlet for the deceased son Johann Röling in Königsberg . Then he went on a grand tour . On February 21, 1678 he was appointed preacher of the Lübeck Aegidienkirche. In 1680 he was promoted to archdeacon , and in 1689 he became (main) pastor of the Aegidienkirche. After the death of Georg Ritter , he was elected senior in the Lübeck Spiritual Ministry on August 5, 1706.

He had a son of the same name who became a preacher at the Jakobikirche in 1711.

A full-length pastor's picture in the Aegidienkirche reminds of Johann Peter Stein. It hung first on the east side of the fourth south pillar, then on the tower wall and, since a restoration carried out in 1892 by Johannes Nöhring , on the east wall of the Woltersen Chapel .
