Johann Sigismund von Schlund also Johann Sigmund von Schlund or Johann Siegmund Schlundt (* 1656 ; † May 30, 1710 in Riga ), was a Brandenburg - Prussian colonel and later Danish and Russian major general .

Life

His father Johann von Schlund was a surveyor and master builder. He initially trained the boy scientifically.

Schlund took up his service in the Prussian artillery in 1670 and rose to become a fireworker. He then took part in the Swedish-Brandenburg War . Schlund was then transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 12 . There he advanced to prime lieutenant in 1685 and staff captain in 1689 . After this he took his leave and entered service in the English in 1694 . In 1698, however, he returned as a lieutenant colonel in Brandenburg Services and was on March 15, 1699 Colonel and commander of the kurbrandenburgischen Artillery - corps . But he was described as domineering and selfish.

On April 24, 1707, the Russian prince and minister Menshikov was captured by Sweden near Grünberg on his journey from Berlin to St. Petersburg. Correspondence with him about weak points in Brandenburg fortresses was found. As a result, Schlund was arrested in Spandau in 1707 . On September 5, 1707, the court martial removed him from his post and sentenced him to life in the fortress . In 1708 he was moved to Peitz . The Swedes even demanded his extradition in an overriding context. In 1709 von Schlund was released after the Danish king interceded for him. This took him as major general and commander of the artillery in his service. A little later, however, Schlund must have switched to Russian services of the same rank .

Schlund was married and had children too. During his imprisonment, the king received an annual pardon from mercy of 800 thalers.
