Johann Varrone

Johann Varrone ( Italian Giovanni Battista Varrone ) (* 12. January 1832 in Bellinzona , † 15. February 1910 in Mödling ) was from the Ticino originating Austrian landscape painter , watercolorist and lithographer .

Life

Varrone studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Joseph Höger . From 1861 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus . Together with Ladislaus Eugen Petrovits , he created watercolors for 50 views of Vienna and the surrounding area (1891).

He painted panoramas of Austrian alpine landscapes and also created illustrations for magnificent works of the monarchy. Some of his works are in the Museum of the City of Vienna and in the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck .

The Varronegasse in Vienna- Siebenhirten was named after him in 1959.
