Johannes Bohn (born February 19, 1909 in Chemnitz ; † November 20, 1980 ) was a German KPD and SED functionary, resistance fighter against the Nazi regime and FDGB functionary.

Life

Bohn, the son of a roofer and a textile worker, attended elementary school in Chemnitz from 1915 to 1923 . He completed an apprenticeship as a roofer himself from 1923 to 1926 and attended vocational school. He worked in this profession in his hometown until 1930. Between 1930 and 1935 he was unemployed, in 1935/36 he worked again as a roofer.

Previously a member of the SAJ , Bohn joined the KJVD in October 1923 . In 1929/30 he was a member of the Erzgebirge - Vogtland district management of the KJVD. In November 1930 Bohn became a member of the KPD. From 1930 to 1933 he was the head of organization or pollen supervisor in the Chemnitz-Ost district and from 1931 to 1933 a member of the Chemnitz sub-district leadership of the KPD.

After the National Socialists “seized power ” in 1933, Bohn continued to work illegally for the KPD. He was political leader and a member of the city government and the sub-district leadership of the KPD in Chemnitz. He also acted as an instructor for five city districts of the Chemnitz sub-district management. In November 1936 he was arrested and sentenced in June 1937 to 18 months in prison by the Dresden Higher Regional Court for “preparing for high treason ” . After his release from prison in Zwickau in June 1938, he was placed under police supervision for a few months and from August 1938 worked again as a roofer. In November 1942 he was drafted into the 999 Penal Battalion . In May 1945 he was taken prisoner by the British and was held in Egypt until January 1947 .

In 1947 Bohn returned to Germany and became a member of the SED and the FDGB. From February 1947 to the beginning of 1948 he was the clerk in the culture and education department, responsible for the new teachers , then head of the culture and education department of the Chemnitz district executive. From the beginning of 1948 to December 1948 he was secretary of the department of party training, culture and education, then from January to August 1949 he was equal chairman of the Chemnitz district executive of the SED. In September 1949 he became first secretary of the SED district leadership in Rochlitz and then acted from December 1949 to June 1952 as first secretary of the SED district leadership in Plauen . Between 1950 and 1953, Bohn completed a distance learning course at the party college "Karl Marx" . From June 1952 to February 1957 he was first secretary of the SED district leadership Dresden-Land and from February 1957 to April 1958 second secretary of the SED district leadership Dresden . From May 1958 to June 1961 he was First Deputy Mayor of Dresden, responsible for the Interior and Management Departments.

From July to August 1961, Bohn acted as chairman of the revision committee of the Dresden district board of the FDGB, then from August 1961 to 1969 as secretary for national trade union units and for Western work and international connections of the Dresden district board of the FDGB. From 1969 to June 1972 he was a political employee at the Dresden District Board of the FDGB. From 1972 until his death in November 1980 he was chairman of the veterans commission of the Dresden district committee of the FDGB.

Bohn was also a member of the Dresden District Committee of Antifascist Resistance Fighters .
