Johannes Gessner
Johannes Gessner (also Gesner or Geßner , born March 18, 1709 in Zurich ; † May 6, 1790 ibid) was a Swiss naturalist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Gessner ".
Live and act
Johannes Gessner was born as the son of Esther (née Maag) by Hegi and the pastor at the church Zum Kreuz Christoph Ges (s) ner, who is descended from Conrad Gessner's cousin Hans. He founded the Physical Society in 1746 . In 1808 it changed its name to Naturforschende Gesellschaft in Zurich and is still known by this name today. He was also a foreign member of numerous academies, including the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen , the Prussian Academy of Sciences , the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala , the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg (since 1764). On September 4, 1746 Johannes Gessner with the academic surname Acarnan II was accepted as a member ( matriculation no. 547 ) in the Leopoldina . Around 1760 he brought Johann Rudolph Schellenberg from Winterthur to Zurich so that he could illustrate natural history works with animal drawings.
