Johannes Rohbeck

Johannes Rohbeck (born January 21, 1947 in Bad Godesberg ) is a German philosopher and didactic specialist in philosophy. From 1993 to 2015 he was Professor of Practical Philosophy and Philosophy Didactics at the TU Dresden . From 2015 to 2018 he was senior professor for research there.

Life

After studying philosophy, German literature, sociology and art history at the University of Bonn and the Free University of Berlin , the Magister exam in philosophy followed in 1971, a time as a research assistant at the Institute for Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin from 1972 to 1976 and there in 1976 PhD in Philosophy. In 1976 he also passed the first state examination in philosophy, German and social studies and completed a legal clerkship and second state examination by 1979. In 1985, he completed his habilitation in philosophy at the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences at the Free University of Berlin, then a private lecturer there.

Professionally, from 1979–1990 he was a teacher at a Berlin high school, 1982–1992 head of teacher training for philosophy in Berlin, 1991–1993 lecturer and representative of the chair for practical philosophy at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald and since 1992 adjunct professor at the Free University of Berlin.

From 1993 to 2015 he was Professor of Practical Philosophy and Philosophy Didactics at the Technical University of Dresden (2012–2015 as Senior Professor). During this time he was also a member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Technology Research; from 1995 to 2015 member of the Board of Trustees of the Outline of the History of Philosophy (founded by Friedrich Ueberweg ); From 2004 to 2014 member of the research project Una nueva filosofía de la historia at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Madrid, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science . From 2014 to 2018 he headed the Dresden group of the research project Philosophy of History and Globalization of Knowledge. Cultural Bridges between Europe and Latin America (short name: Worldbridges) as part of a funding program of the European Union (FP7-People-2013-IRSES). In this position he was senior professor for research at the Technical University of Dresden.

Stays abroad resulted in 1987 as a visiting professor for four months at the University of Messina , in 1989/90 a one-year stay in the USA as a visiting professor at Dickinson College in Carlisle (Pennsylvania), in 1992 as a visiting professor for one month at the University of Bari , and research stays in 1997 and 1999 Paris Bibliothèque nationale de France , 2004 in Madrid at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas , 2016 to the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and in 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2017 in Buenos Aires Universidad de Buenos Aires . In the 2018/19 winter semester he was visiting professor (Cátedra de Excelencia) at the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid.
