Johannes Spehr

Johannes Spehr (* 1965 in Schotten ) is a German sculptor and painter . He lives and works in Frankfurt am Main .

biography

From 1986 to 1992 Spehr studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. In 1996 he received a grant from the Hessische Kulturstiftung Wiesbaden, which was advertised as a travel grant. In 1997 Spehr was awarded the Max Pechstein Prize of the City of Zwickau. Subsequently, he received a work grant from the Kunstfonds Bonn. This was followed in 1999 by the Cologne Ars viva Prize. In 2001, Spehr was once again supported by a work grant from Hessische Kultur GmbH.

Johannes Spehr has been constantly represented and supported by Galerie Hübner + Hübner in Frankfurt am Main since the beginning of his artistic career .

Spehr has been a visiting professor at the Kunsthochschule Kassel since 2004 , where he now teaches as a professor . In 2008 he was given a teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts in Mainz .

In his earlier work, Spehr mainly occupied himself with the connection of different motifs, which in absurd combinations resulted in a painting.

In his later works there are rather selective narrative moments condensed into a complex work, which in a dramatic and often also scenic constellation result in a fantastic overall work .
