Johannes Weidenmüller (musician)

Johannes Weidenmüller (* 1966 in Heidelberg ) is a German jazz bassist.

Weidenmüller learned the cello and later the double bass as a child, and from 1989 to 1991 he studied at the Cologne University of Music . He moved to New York in 1991, where he studied at the New School a . a. with Dave Holland and Cecil McBee . He was a member of the ensembles of Hank Jones , Ray Barretto , Carl Allen and Vincent Herring , John Abercrombie and Joe Lovano and worked as a sideman a . a. with Eddie Henderson , Dewey Redman , Randy Brecker , Kenny Wheeler , Toots Thielemans , George Benson , Wynton Marsalis , Joshua Redman , Gary Bartz , Johnny Coles , Clifford Jordan , Fred Hersch and Joe Chambers . He also took part in recordings with the Spanish National Orchestra, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble , the flamenco musician Chano Domínguez and the Indian ensemble of Gaurav Madzumdar . Among other things, he was awarded the Hennessey Jazz Prize in 1996.

Since 1997 he has been teaching bass and ensemble playing at the New York School of Music , is a member of the Mannes College of Music and gives courses at various universities in the USA and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam . In 2005 he published a book and CD on metric modulations .
