John Frederick Bond (born December 17, 1932 in Dedham , † September 25, 2012 in Manchester ) was an English football player and coach . As a player, he won the FA Cup with West Ham United in 1964 . Seventeen years later, he coached Manchester City into the finals of this prestigious competition.
Player career
West Ham United (1950-1966)
After promotion to the Football League First Division in the 1957/58 season, Bond played with his team in the top English division until 1965. In 1964 he won the FA Cup with his teammates Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst with a 3-2 final win over Preston North End . In the following year, West Ham secured the title in the 1964/65 European Cup Winners' Cup with a 2-0 win over German cup winners TSV 1860 Munich . John Bond was not used in this game.
Coaching career
Norwich City (1973-1980)
At the beginning of his work as a coach, he led the AFC Bournemouth in the Football League Third Division in 1971 . After two years in the third division, he moved to the first division Norwich City on November 27, 1973 , where he succeeded Ron Saunders . With his new team he rose from the First Division 1973/74 at the end of the season . In the 1974/75 season Norwich succeeded in direct recovery and also made it to the final of the League Cup . However, the team lost this 1-0 to Aston Villa . After five years in the first division, Bond moved to league rivals Manchester City in October 1980 .
Manchester City (1980-1983)

In the second half of the 1982/83 season John Bond left the Manchester club on February 3, 1983 .
