John Cunningham (Bishop)

John Cunningham (born February 22, 1938 in Paisley ) is a Scottish clergyman and emeritus Bishop of Galloway .

Life

Cunningham was educated at Saint Mary's College, Blairs (near Aberdeen ), St Peter's College , Cardross and Scots College , Rome (JCD, Gregorian University, Rome, 1964).

John Cunningham was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Paisley on June 29, 1961 . Parallel to his time as assistant priest in Bishopton, he was from 1967 to 1981 professor at Saint Peter's College in Cardross near Glasgow . From 1969 to 1974 he was chaplain in Paisley .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Galloway on April 7, 2004. He was episcopal ordained by the Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh , Keith Michael Patrick O'Brien , on May 28 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Maurice Taylor , Old Bishop of Galloway, and John Aloysius Mone , Bishop of Paisley.

On November 22, 2014, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
