biography

Early life

John Edward James was born in the US state of Michigan to John A. James. At the age of 17, James enrolled at the United States Military Academy , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2004 and became a pilot. He served in the US Army for eight years and participated in several operations in the Iraq War, where he served as a helicopter pilot .

James studied at Pennsylvania State University and the University of Michigan in addition to his army career .

Entrepreneurship

In 2012, James moved to James Group International, where his father, John A. James, served as Chief Executive Officer . James rose to the position of Director of Operations and eventually President of JGI and CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics. Under Michigan's Governor Rick Snyder , James served on the Mobility Council and the Veterans Trust Committee.

Senate elections 2018

In September 2017, James joined the Republican primary for the 2018 United States Senate election in Michigan to replace three-term Democrat Debbie Stabenow from her seat. The musician Kid Rock originally wanted to participate in the primary elections, but in the end there was a choice between James and the businessman Sandy Pensler. President Trump voted in favor of James in the primaries, and James won his party's primaries. In the election on November 6, 2018, however, Stabenow won her re-election with 52.3% of the vote, while James only got 45.8%.

Potential US Ambassador to the United Nations

After Nikki Haley, as US Ambassador to the United Nations , announced her ambitions to resign at the end of 2018, James was discussed as her successor and is said to have met with President Trump for this purpose. Trump initially gave the spokeswoman for the State Department of the United States , Heather Nauert preference. After Nauert surprisingly turned down the position in February 2019, James was again in talks to take over the office. Still, Trump decided again not to hand over the post to James and Kelly Craft was nominated as Haley's successor.

Senate elections 2020

After his surprisingly narrow defeat for the politics of Michigan against Senator Debbie Stabenow, James became a shooting star of the Republican Party. James was soon recognized by the Republican National Committee as a suitable candidate for the 2020 Michigan Senate elections to prevent incumbent Democratic Senator Gary Peters from being re-elected.

On June 6, 2019, James finally announced his renewed ambitions to become a US Senator for Michigan and to run for the election.
