John Hecimovic (born March 31, 1984 in Waterloo , Ontario ) is a Canadian - Croatian ice hockey player who is under contract with the Dornbirner EC in the Austrian ice hockey league in 2012 .
Career
Clubs
John Hecimovic began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 2000 to 2005 for the Sarnia Sting and Mississauga IceDogs . During this period he was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the ninth round as a total of 264th player by the Florida Panthers , for which he never played. Instead, the winger made his professional ice hockey debut for the South Carolina Stingrays from the ECHL in the 2005/06 season , before finishing the season with the Straubing Tigers in the 2nd Bundesliga . With Straubing he was promoted to the German Ice Hockey League , but returned to the ECHL, where he played for the Pensacola Ice Pilots in the following season .
The 2007/08 season started again in Pensacola, but already moved to HYS The Hague in the Dutch Eredivisie after five games . With the team he became Dutch champions in 2009 . Then the Canadian-Croatian dual citizen received a contract with the new in the Austrian Hockey League captured KHL Medveščak Zagreb , for whom he played for two years and in which he in the 2010/11 season was an assistant captain. In 2011 he also won the Croatian championship title with Medveščak . For the 2011/12 season he moved to Anyang Halla from the Asia League Ice Hockey . In December 2011, he moved to Nippon Paper Cranes within the league . But after only one year in Asia, Hecimovic returned to the Austrian ice hockey league and moved to the Dornbirner EC .
International
Hecimovic made his debut for Croatia in September 2012 in the pre-qualification for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi . He also took part in the Division II games of the 2013 World Cup and not only rose to Division I with the Croatians, but was also the tournament's best scorer with six goals and six preparations.
