John Megna

John Megna (* 9. November 1952 in Queens , New York as John Anthony Ingolia ; † 5. September 1995 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

life and career

John Megna, the son of a singer, made his acting debut on Broadway in the musical Greenwillow by Frank Loesser at the age of six . He gained greater fame in 1963 with the role of Charles Baker, Dill 'Harris in the classic film Who disturbs the nightingale , based on the novel by Harper Lee . His character, the imaginative neighbor boy Dill, was based on Lee's childhood friend Truman Capote . This was followed by other small film roles, for example in Lullaby for a Corpse (1964) as a boy in the house of Bette Davis'Figure has to pass a test of courage. He also made guest appearances in some television series such as Raumschiff Enterprise and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour . In the early 1970s, Megna studied at Cornell University , where he majored in acting.

As an adult, Megna returned to the camera in 1974 after seven years without a film or television appearance: In The Godfather - Part II by Francis Ford Coppola , he played a small role as the young Hyman Roth (the old Hyman was played by the acting legend Lee Strasberg ) . Megna's most important scene in this film was cut, however. The great success for Megna did not materialize afterwards either and he had to be content with short appearances. He also worked as a theater director during this time and founded the non-profit theater group LA Arts . Eventually Megna embarked on a second career as a teacher in the 1980s. He has taught English, Spanish, and history in schools in Los Angeles.

John Megna died of AIDS in July 1995 at the age of only 42 . He left three siblings, including his older half-sister, actress Connie Stevens .
