John Moore (Bishop, 1835)
John Moore (born June 27, 1835 in Delvin , County Westmeath , Ireland , † July 30, 1901 in Jacksonville , Florida , USA ) was Bishop of Saint Augustine .
Life
John Moore came to the United States at the age of 14. His family settled in Charleston , South Carolina . He received on 9 April 1860, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
On February 16, 1877 Pope Pius IX appointed him . to the Bishop of Saint Augustine. The Bishop of Charleston , Patrick Neeson Lynch , ordained him episcopal on May 13 of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Wilmington , Thomas Andrew Becker , and the Bishop of Savannah , William Hickley Gross CSsR . The inauguration took place on May 20, 1877.
The Bishop Moore High School in Orlando is named after him.
