John Shanley

John Shanley (born January 4, 1852 in Albion , New York , USA , † July 16, 1909 in Fargo , North Dakota ) was Bishop of Fargo .

Life

John Shanley attended St. John's College in Collegeville Township , Minnesota . Shanley studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Collegio Urbano de Propaganda Fide in Rome . He received on 30 May 1874, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On November 29, 1889, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . as Bishop of Jamestown (renamed the Diocese of Fargo in April 1897). The Archbishop of Saint Paul , John Ireland , ordained him episcopal on December 27th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Bishop Emeritus of Saint Paul, Thomas Langdon Grace OP , and Bishop of Sioux Falls , Martin Marty OSB .
